This intensive review course features hands-on interactive learning through numerous patient encounters. It includes coaching and training in effective physician/patient communication, practice in conducting a relevant patient history and performing a focused physical exam, writing a concise patient note and a minimum of 12 standardized patient examinations in Practice Exam 12 Stations or 6 simulated cases in Practice Exam 6 Stations.

This is a simulated exam that follows the format of the standard 12-station Standardized
Patient Exam, except it will be administered using a video conferencing system. Students will
still proceed through a series of 12 one-on-one encounters with Standardized Patients (SP).
They will interact with the patient to build a relationship and formulate a differential diagnosis
and plan, and submit a USMLE-style Patient Note.

How will I interact with the Simulated Patients (SPs) in a virtual setting?

This is a simulated exam that follows the format of the standard Standardized Patient Exam, except it will be administered using a video conferencing system. The timing for the encounters and interactions will be roughly the same as in-person with one major exception: the physical exam and exam results will be completed verbally.

How will my Step 2 CS practice exam performance be evaluated?

Our expert graders and standardized patients use checklists developed according the the test maker's criteria so you can quickly understand your strengths and target your opportunities for improvement. Receive guidance on your likely overall performance on test day. Understand your performance on the three sections of the exam with our personalized computer analysis system: Communication and Interpersonal Skills (CIS), Spoken English Proficiency (SEP), and the Integrated Clinical Encounter (ICE).

Medical Education

Why are high scores so important ?

Program Directors primarily use USMLE scores and number of exam attempts to narrow the list of Residency candidates to interview. In fact, in the 2017 Residency Match, the average difference in Step 1 scores between matched and unmatched candidates was only 14 points, making every point you get on USMLE crucial to your success in obtaining a residency position.(1)

Cultural immersion plays a crucial role in the development of your interpersonal skills, which helps you on Step 2 CS and residency interviews. Residency program directors look for candidates who can communicate effectively within a medical team and are comfortable within a U.S. healthcare setting.
